Over the 15 years owning Exclusive Auto, I have seen the some of the worst times and best times in my life as a shop owner.
I used to toss the mailers to attend the shop owner "How To Increase Your Profits!" Seminar. Then one day I pulled one back out of the trash and decided this was my last chance at fixing my business. Everything seemed to be controlling me, I was working 6–7 days a week, 70-80 hours a week. I was ready to just close up shop and head back to the Mercedes dealership where I had come from.
The first thing I thought after the Seminar was "Wow! I wish someone had told me about this stuff years ago." I learned vital, basic concepts on managing and running a shop profitably. I realized that knowing how to fix a car doesn't always mean you know how to run a business.
Now I am a much more relaxed person, I work just 3 and 1/2 days a week and have time to volunteer and pursue hobbies. When I used to leave the shop I would get phone calls every hour with this or that problem. Now I don't get a single call, my staff is well trained and the shop is setup and organized like a well tuned motor.
